Electrical Insulating Materials / Industrial Structural Materials
In the field of electrical insulation and industrial structural materials, Arisawa initiated the development of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) technology by applying our weaving and resin impregnation expertise. FRP molded products are made by first laminating "prepregs" that has been semi-cured through the impregnation of resins into fabrics, then molding these "prepregs" into the desired forms, and finally applying heat and pressure to the molded "prepregs." By choosing the right materials, certain characteristics can be embedded in the final product. For example, electrical insulating materials used in high temperature environments (100 to 150C) are manufactured by using glass fibers because of its unique insulating properties of glass fibers and its fiber orientation dependent anisotropy (aeolotropy.) Arisawa's three technologies (weaving, coating, and molding) are applied in the production of materials used in products use in extreme environments such as electrical generators and nuclear fusion equipment and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnosis equipment, as well as rocket fuel tanks.
