First of all, allow me to truly express my prayers for those who lost their lives in the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.
Many shareholders and business partners of the Company were also affected by the Earthquake and it is my great wish that the affected areas will recover as soon as possible and the Japanese economy will overcome the sluggish conditions caused by the Earthquake.
Arisawa Mfg. Co., Ltd. continues to address power saving measures due to electricity shortages such as a review of our production system, a change in the days we have off and a review of our air conditioning preset temperatures. The rapid appreciation of the yen since last year has continued its progression with no sign of letting up anytime soon, which impacts the company tremendously with our high ratio of exports.
Under such a severe business environment, we will continue to make our best efforts as we believe it is our responsibility to our shareholders, business partners, local communities and the many employees and their families that we continue to exist as a company and contribute to society.

Now, regarding the task of reducing by 25% greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels in ten years by 2020, which was a pledge made by the government of the Democratic Party of Japan at the United Nations, I believe it has become one of the most important tasks for corporate management as efforts in response to environmental issues will be further accelerated. In addition to environmental issues, "Eco" has received more attention in an atmosphere of power savings, triggered by the Earthquake, and there is a climate that products acceptable to the market must first be "Eco." I have to say "Eco" has become much closer to our lives and corporate activities and we cannot avoid "Eco" in the future activities.

The trend toward efforts at reducing environmental loads will gradually spread to every part of the world, not only in Europe, the United States and Japan, but also in BRICs and VISTA. We must understand such trends as soon as possible and incorporate these trends as part of our corporate social responsibility and basic posture toward reducing environmental loads to the minimum extent in all business activities from "development and design" to "manufacturing and transportation" of our products. We will actively cope with promotion and improvement of environmental protection, including "compliance," "confirmation, reduction and verification of environmental loads" and "report on environmental activities" through effective operation of the environmental management system.

This "Environmental Report" is the summary of our efforts toward the environment during 2010 and I believe readers will fully understand the status of our environmental activities. I would be greatly pleased if you would read our "Report" in order to better understand our activities at reducing environmental loads.

We will continue to contribute to the development of society by realizing speedy management that takes a leap forward around the world through swift action and ceaseless innovation and adaptation to social changes under the basic policy of "Creation, Innovation and Challenge."
