In the global economic crisis, characterized as the greatest in nearly a century, the movement toward simultaneously solving the challenges both for the environment and economic revitalization has been rapidly accelerating as illustrated by the "proposal of Green New Deal Policies" by the United States, the "proposal of fossil energy elimination policies" by China and the "declaration of the target of greenhouse gas reductions" by the new Japanese government, etc. In our everyday lives, such significant changes were first recognized with the spread of hybrid cars and solar energy power generation.

Based on trends in addressing the global environment, Arisawa Mfg. Co., Ltd. has, as part of its corporate social responsibility, established its Environmental Policy as our basic philosophy for reducing loads on the environment in our overall business activities from "development and design" of products to "manufacturing." We will, through effective operation of our environmental management system, actively make efforts in line with the responsibility of a corporate entity for "compliance with laws and regulations," "confirmation and reduction of environmental loads," "examination of our approaches toward the environment" and "reports on our environmental activities."

For major activities under our Environmental Policy, we not only promote industrial waste reduction and recycling but also for the purpose of constraining emission of substances hazardous to the environment and significant CO2 emission reductions, we have changed the majority of fuels we use for boilers, etc., from heavy oil to natural gas and we are also promoting expansion of VOC (volatile organic compounds) emission gas processing devices at our Nakadahara Plant and new establishment at our headquarters in order to reduce emissions of VOC. We have also actively tackled a reduction in environmental load substances contained in our products and we responded to halogen free products ahead of other companies and provided products that comply with "RoHS," an EU environmental regulation, which prohibits use of particular chemical substances. This report summarizes environmental approaches in our 2008 "Environmental Report" and we would appreciate your understanding of the status of our environmental activities.
